This engine belongs to the Lord Nelson class. 16 of the locomotives were built and are the most powerful on the Southern Railway. Recently some alterations have been made from the original design the locomotive now having a more streamline appearance. They are used on the boat trains and fast passenger expresses. This particular locomotive was built at Eastleigh Works in June 1928 It was derailed in an incident at Byfleet in December 1946. Last allocated to 71A Eastleigh shed it was withdrawn in December 1961 to be scrapped at Eastleigh Works in May 1962. |
